🌸 Day 1 in Tokyo: Temples, Streets & Local Flavors
Our first full day in Tokyo greeted us with rain—but that didn’t stop us! From exploring Asakusa’s historic streets and Senso-ji Temple to trying vending machine drinks and crossing the famous Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo instantly showed us its beautiful mix of old and new.
Our Stay in Asakusa
We checked into APA Hotel, located right next to Asakusa Station. At just $50 a night for two people, it was a cozy and budget-friendly base for exploring Tokyo. Compact, clean, and functional—it had everything we needed.
Senso-ji Temple: Oldest in Tokyo
We started the day at Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple (built in 645 AD). Visiting around 7 AM meant no crowds—just peaceful moments among pagodas, giant lanterns, and temple halls. We even tried our luck with Omikuji fortune slips—a fun way to experience Japanese traditions.
Walking Tokyo’s Streets
From the Sumida Riverwalk to Azumabashi Bridge, we soaked in riverside views despite the drizzle. Japan’s vending machines kept us warm and curious—green tea, milk coffee, seasonal drinks… it felt like a mini adventure with every coin drop!
Shibuya & Shinjuku Highlights
We braved the iconic Shibuya Crossing—thousands of people crossing in perfect chaos. Nearby, the Hachiko Statue reminded us of Japan’s heartwarming loyalty stories. Later, we headed to Meiji Jingu Shrine, surrounded by lush forest, and admired the architecture of Yoyogi National Gymnasium.
Foodie Adventures
Breakfast was classic 7-Eleven goodies: pork buns and fruit sandwiches. Lunch and dinner? Local noodle and chicken dishes that were flavorful, filling, and incredibly affordable. Japan proves that even “simple” food is unforgettable!
