Leaving Canada: Our Leap Into a Year of Full-Time Travel
If you’re reading this, it probably means you’ve already seen the start of our newest adventure—we’ve left Canada! And yes, we’re equal parts thrilled and terrified.
For those who are new here, I’m Ranjit, and this is Sudeshna. Today’s video is a little different from our usual content. After four years of living in Canada, we’re stepping out of our comfort zone and embracing a dream we’ve been chasing for nearly a decade: traveling the world full-time.
How It All Began
Back in 2016, we got our passports, packed our bags, and flew to Thailand. That first international trip changed everything. Experiencing a new culture, meeting people from different walks of life, and tasting local food for the first time made us realize—we needed more of this in our lives.
Since then, travel became our top priority. But like most people, money was an obstacle. We didn’t have a lot back then, so we started looking for opportunities abroad that would allow us to earn in a higher currency and save for the future.
Our Goals in Canada
- Clear our personal and educational loans.
- Reconstruct my parents’ home.
- Save enough money to take a gap year and explore the world.
Eight years of planning, and countless late nights of budgeting and saving, we finally made it.
Taking the Leap
So yes—we quit our jobs, sold or donated almost everything we owned, and saved every last penny. We chose not to have a car, a house, or any financial responsibilities that could weigh us down. Call it running away from responsibilities… we call it freedom.
Our plan? Travel around the world for a year (or until the money runs out) and document every step of the journey here on our YouTube channel. From daily travel vlogs to tips on living out of a suitcase, we want you to come along for the ride.
Saying Goodbye
Leaving our condo was bittersweet. The views, the comfort, the memories—it’s all a part of our story now. This little space has been a creative haven for us, and it’s hard to see it empty. But stepping beyond our comfort zone is exactly what we came here to do.
Funding Our Adventure
Now, the million-dollar question: how are we funding this adventure? Simply put—we’re self-funded. Over the past four years, we’ve saved $50,000 and accumulated about a million miles and points, which we’ll use to cover flights and hotels. Our daily budget? $100 for both of us.
We want to prove that travel doesn’t have to break the bank. With the right planning, points, and a bit of creativity, incredible experiences are within reach for anyone.
What’s Next
Our journey kicks off from Toronto to Tokyo in business class—yes, business class!—and we’ll show you exactly how we did it for just over $100. Over the coming months, we’ll share everything from maximizing miles to booking flights and hotels on a budget.
