\n For the first time ever, we hopped on Japan\u2019s legendary Shinkansen Bullet Train<\/strong> \ud83d\ude84. Two hours, 457 km, and a taste of first-class comfort later, we were in Kyoto \u2014 ready to start the next chapter of our adventure. \n <\/p>\n\n \n

Our First Bullet Train Ride<\/h2>\n

We checked out of our hotel in Tokyo, grabbed the Metro to Tokyo Station, and boarded the Shinkansen bound for Kyoto. We booked Green Car (first class)<\/strong> seats at a discounted rate \u2014 only $20 more than economy. The train sped along at over 300 km\/h, turning what would have been a 6-hour drive into a sleek 2-hour journey.<\/p>\n\n

Booking tickets is super simple \u2014 just use the official app or website, add your credit card, and reserve. If you book at least 3 days in advance, you can often find discounted Green Car seats. Alternatively, tickets can also be bought directly at the station.<\/p>\n\n

Life Onboard the Shinkansen<\/h2>\n

The experience feels more like a flight than a train: reclining seats, huge legroom, charging ports, coat hangers, and spotless bathrooms. We grabbed snacks from 7-Eleven before boarding \u2014 fried chicken, tuna sandwiches, and even fruit sandwiches (only in Japan!). Pro tip: sit on the right side<\/strong> when going Tokyo \u2192 Kyoto for a chance to spot Mount Fuji on a clear day.<\/p>\n\n \n
